Think-Cell Charts

Preview Version

This documentation is currently being worked on and may be incomplete or subject to change. If you spot any mistakes or have suggestions, please contact one of the maintainers.

The toolset supprots generating Think-Cell charts in PowerPoint slides by replacing chart data with values from Excel.

When to use

✅ Any Charts that can be created with Think-Cell should preferably be created using Think-Cell Charts.

If some required functionality is not supported by Think-Cell, you can use PowerPoint. However, Think-Cell charts are generally more powerful and flexible, whereas PowerPoint charts are more limited in functionality and may not be supported by this toolset. For more information view the PowerPoint Charts documentation.

Template Structure

Think-Cell Chart Placeholder: - Insert a Think-Cell chart in your PowerPoint template as you normally would. - Adjust the chart type and formatting as desired. - Leave the data as is; it will be replaced by the toolset. We recommend using a placeholder value "1". - Add a chart name. For this, right click the chart and add the desired name. This name needs to be consistent with the config file.

Excel / DataFrame Format:

Label / Date Category1 (usually "Series") Category2 (usually "Quarterly performance") ...
00/00/2000 Data as Percentage Data as percentage ...
00/00/2000 Data as Percentage Data as percentage ...
00/00/2000 Data as Percentage Data as percentage ...
00/00/2000 Data as Percentage Data as percentage ...
00/00/2000 Data as Percentage Data as percentage ...
... ... ... ...

Key Points:

  • Column 0: X-Axis Labels / Dates
  • Column 1, 2, ...: Data for each category / series
  • Data should be in the format expected by Think-Cell (e.g., percentage as 0.25%, whereas full number as 25)

thinkcellbuilder restrictions

As of right now, thinkcellbuilder does not fully support percentages. Therefore, we use our custom fork of thinkcellbuilder which includes a fix for this issue. If you are having issues with percentages, please make sure you are using the correct version of thinkcellbuilder.
